1. Check fire alarms once a month and replace batteries once a year.
2. If your house has high windows with no escape, fire ladders are beneficial.
3. Every kitchen should have a fire extinguisher ready to go.
4. If you smoke, please smoke outside. It is the #1 cause of preventable home fire deaths (www.firesafety.gov).
5. Woodstoves and fireplaces should be inspected and cleaned annually.
6. If someone catches on fire...STOP, DROP, and ROLL works.
7. Never leave the kitchen when cooking. The #1 cause of structure fires is from cooking food (www.firesafety.gov).
8. If there are kids in the house, teach them to stay away from matches and electrical outlets.
9. Have an emergency action plan ready if a fire were to take over your house.

10. Do not hesitate to call 911, if you question an emergency situation.
